Signing of Memorandum

Before signing the document, Prof. Dr. László Rovó, Rector of the University of Szeged emphasized that after establishing cooperation with Western European and American relationships, the University opens towards the Far Eastern region. The first step in this direction is the agreement between our universities. ’The University of Szeged already has a well-functioning network of relationships in the agricultural field with China. The development of agriculture has always been a cornerstone of our University, therefore a significant framework to achieve our goals will be established with this agreement’ said Prof. Dr. László Rovó.

Shen Shuxing, Rector of the Hebei Agricultural University highlighted the future plans regarding this cooperation. ’Our common objective is the establishment of a modern agricultural research centre thus creating an innovative platform. We have the pleasure to enter such a cooperation with the University of Szeged, since it becomes possible to launch joint bachelor, master and doctoral programs’ said the Rector of the Hebei Agricultural University.

’This Memorandum of Understanding to be signed fits the institution building projects of the University of Szeged as it contributes to the extension of our Chinese relationships. In addition to the academic, research and scientific relations, our ultimate goal is to establish a Chinese educational centre in Szeged, based on the SZTE Confucius Institute – thus supporting the Chinese students and academic staff coming to Szeged’ said Dr. Judit Fendler, Chancellor of the University of Szeged.

Dr. József Horváth, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture of the SZTE detailed the future development plans of the Faculty. According to the Dean, the key is crossing boundaries and borders: it is essential to exploit interdisciplinarity in order to find solutions to agricultural challenges and finding as many international partners to do so as possible.
