The official language of Hungary is complex and unique, it is among the 24 official languages of the European Union. Despite the country’s location in central Europe, its dialect is nothing like those spoken in its neighbouring nations. It is a member of the Finno-Ugric language family the languages of many nations have influenced itations throughout history, none of the neighbouring languages of Central Europe resembles Hungarian. Let’s check what makes the Hungarian language so special!

On April 11 Hungarians celebrate National Poetry Day and its literary tradition isn’t so familiar among international student or foreign people living in Hungary.  First for fun, but later for building a bridge between cultures, Owen Good decided to translate contemporary work like poems written by Hungarian poets Renátó Fehér or Krisztina Tóth. 

The time has come to introduce our international alumni volunteer team with 34 people from 17 countries speaking 23 different languages. In the first chapter of our volunteer series, you can read Aidana Smagul’s story from Kazakhstan! She studied in Hungary in 2017 at ELTE and now she’s an intern as a linguist at a Polish company.

As the last part of our alumni interviews you can read the story of Basak Dilara Özdemir-Lakatos, who is a former student of Liszt Academy and a brilliant pianist and composer. She also works at the Hungarian State Opera, where she accompanies the ballet dancers on the piano. In this interview formerly made by the Tempus Public Foundation’s International Alumni Team she talked about the beginnings, the challenges and why she loves Hungary so much.
