Our alumni communities: AHAU - Azerbaijan Hungary Alumni Union

Our alumni communities and networks are growing day by day and have reached around 10.000 members. Some of them decided to organize chapters (small groups) to keep in contact or build professional collaboration with each other. In 2022 our alumni volunteers launched 6 different new alumni groups (4 local and 2 professional) giving a chance to the members to join. In our new column, Hikmat Hasanov introduces the Azerbaijan Hungary Alumni Union (AHAU) in Baku.

Celebrating the Hungarian Poetry Day with the Alumni Volunteer team

The Hungarian Poetry Day is on a different day than the World Poetry Day and it’s celebrated on 11 April in 2022. It’s celebrated on the anniversary of József Attila’s birthday, who is among the most famous Hungarian poets. On this day we celebrate culture, reading and writing poems all around the world. The aim of this event is to support linguistic diversity by sharing famous poems or even sharing our own. To celebrate together, we asked the new international Alumni Volunteer team to share their favourite poems and why they like or wrote them.

The translator behind Hungarian poems: Owen Good

On April 11 Hungarians celebrate National Poetry Day and its literary tradition isn’t so familiar among international student or foreign people living in Hungary.  First for fun, but later for building a bridge between cultures, Owen Good decided to translate contemporary work like poems written by Hungarian poets Renátó Fehér or Krisztina Tóth.
