Abu Baker, a recent graduate from Semmelweis University, has navigated an incredible journey that has significantly influenced his professional aspirations and personal development. With a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and Patient Care, he reflects on how this experience has exceeded his expectations and shaped his future.
My next big step is to build practical hospital experience
I aim to apply the skills and knowledge I have gained at Semmelweis University and further develop them in real-world settings. I also plan to stay deeply engaged in volunteer work and research, because I believe that combining clinical practice with community service and scientific inquiry is essential for meaningful growth in healthcare.
After gaining this experience, I aim to pursue a Master’s degree at one of the world’s top-ranked universities. This will help me broaden my perspective and refine my skills as a global healthcare professional. In the long run, I aspire to continue my academic journey by earning a PhD, with the hope of making a lasting impact on the field of nursing.
My dreams and ambitions go beyond personal goals
In my home country and many places around the world, nursing is often viewed as a low-ranked or less-respected profession. I am determined to challenge and change this perception. Nursing is the heart of patient care; it involves empathy, advocacy, and the courage to stand beside people in their most vulnerable moments. I want to do my part in elevating the status of nursing and demonstrating the vital role we play.
One of my ultimate dreams is to establish an institute that offers the highest quality nursing education while also integrating essential aspects such as leadership, research, and patient-centred care. By creating an environment focused on both education and empowerment, I believe we can inspire future generations of nurses to lead with confidence and compassion.

Hungary and Semmelweis University have given me a global community
Hungary and Semmelweis University, in particular, have given me more than just an education—they have given me a global community, lifelong friendships, and a broader vision of what healthcare can be. I plan to stay connected with Hungary and the Semmelweis alumni community by participating in alumni events, sharing my journey, and maintaining contact with my classmates and professors. I also hope to return to Hungary in the future to keep building these meaningful connections.
As an alumnus, I see myself as a bridge between cultures, bringing back the lessons I learned in Hungary to help improve healthcare and nursing education in my home country. I want to be an advocate for compassion, respect, and dignity in nursing, and to keep learning from the diverse experiences of my fellow alumni around the world.
I am excited to be part of the global Semmelweis alumni community and look forward to building a better future for patients and nurses everywhere.
