Explore our alumni groups: Nigeria-Hungary Alumni Association

Our alumni community and network are growing day by day and have reached around 10K members. Some of the members decided to organise small groups (chapters) to keep in contact or build professional collaboration with each other. In 2022 our alumni volunteers launched 6 different new alumni groups (4 local and 2 professional) giving a chance for the members to join. In our new column, Lucky Peter Kenda introduces the Nigeria-Hungary Alumni Association in Jalingo and Abuja.

Meet our alumni volunteers: Purevdulam Jamiyansuren

We have an amazing and enthusiastic international alumni volunteer team of 22 people from 18 countries. Most of them decided to create an alumni chapter in their home country or form international professional alumni groups and some of them did great social media work. In the next chapter of our volunteer series, you can read Purevdulam Jamiyansuren’s story from Mongolia. She studied International Economics and Business at Budapest Business School between 2015-2017 and is now a Chief Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Business Excellence for Sustainability and Transparency (BEST) project in Mongolia.

Medical engineering drives healthcare forward

The University of Pécs organized the first International Healthcare Engineering Innovation Conference in Pécs. One of the main presenters dr. Metin Akay talked about exciting developments like brain chips used for treating brain tumours, and a non-invasive device used to diagnose blockages of the coronary arteries.

The beauty of Hungarian music- an interview with musicologist Gergely Fazekas

The presenter of this year’s last alumni webinar was Gergely Fazekas, who is a musicologist and an associate professor at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music. He held a fantastic and deeply engaging presentation, where participants could learn a lot about the traditions as well as the current trends of Hungarian music from the early Middle Ages to the contemporaries, including world-famous composers such as Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály, György Ligeti or György Kurtág.  We asked him about his motivation for being a musicologist and a teacher as well as about the peculiarities of Hungarian music.

Meet our alumni volunteers: Ayaz Shaikh

The time has come to introduce our international alumni volunteer team with 34 people from 17 countries speaking 23 different languages. In the next chapter of our volunteer series, you can read Ayaz Shaikh’s story from India! He earned his MSc in Food Safety and Quality Engineering from the University of Debrecen during 2016-2018. Whereas He recently got the opportunity to continue his doctoral studies at the same institute from 2020.

“Science communication can save lives”– an interview with virologist, Dr. Gábor Kemenesi

Dr. Gábor Kemenesi, a key virologist at the National Laboratory of Virology in Pécs, and a member of Hungary’s COVID-19 Task Force was the speaker of the Alumni Hungary Webinar series in November. He gave an exciting presentation on global pandemics and the consequences of the COVID-19 epidemic. We interviewed him about his research field and the role of communication in science.
