What will the James Webb Space Telescope see? - an interview with astronomer Örs Hunor Detre

Örs Hunor Detre is a physicist and astronomer who specializes in the research and development of space instruments. He is currently leading an engineering team working on the grand project of the James Webb Space Telescope, which he talked about in the May edition of our Alumni Hungary Webinar Series. He was kind enough to also give us a short interview about his experiences and the significance of the project.

Can less work be more productive? – An interview with researcher Miklós Antal

The debate on working time is one of the most relevant topics of our age.  The ecological economist, Miklós Antal studies this highly interesting field as the head of the MTA-ELTE Lendület New Vision Research Group. As the presenter of the Alumni Hungary Webinar Series in April, he introduced his research on the potential of working time reduction and a more sustainable economic system. We caught him for an interview and asked him about this exciting project.

Meet our alumni volunteers: Ana Elena Martinez Felizola

Celebrating the Hungarian Poetry Day with the Alumni Volunteer team

The Hungarian Poetry Day is on a different day than the World Poetry Day and it’s celebrated on 11 April in 2022. It’s celebrated on the anniversary of József Attila’s birthday, who is among the most famous Hungarian poets. On this day we celebrate culture, reading and writing poems all around the world. The aim of this event is to support linguistic diversity by sharing famous poems or even sharing our own. To celebrate together, we asked the new international Alumni Volunteer team to share their favourite poems and why they like or wrote them.

Meet our alumni volunteers: Dr. Farzad Rayegani

We have a new volunteer team for the next two years with 40 members from 28 countries and speaking more than 20 different languages. In this chapter of our volunteer series, you can read Dr Farzad Rayegani’s story from Iran and Canada! He is our senior volunteer and studied and worked in Hungary between 1987 and 2000. Now, he is the Senior Dean at Humber College, Toronto and here you can read his exciting way to this title and job.

Busójárás – A Hungarian tradition celebrating the coming of spring

The annual ritual of Busójárás dates back to hundreds of years, celebrating the end of winter and the beginning of spring. The UNESCO-recognised event lasts approximately for one week in the small town of Mohács, located in southern Hungary, near the city of Pécs. For the first time since the pandemic, this year the carnival will take place between 24 February and 1 March!
