University of Debrecen

The History of the University of Debrecen dates back to 1538, when the Reformed College of Debrecen was established. Today 14 faculties situated on 7 campuses have more than 27,000 students. The international programs were launched in 1987 and all of them are delivered in English.

Debrecen has some 205,000 inhabitants, it is the second largest city of Hungary, a cultural, educational and economic centre of Eastern Hungary. Debrecen is a tranquil and safe city with a picturesque university main campus located in the “Great Forest” area.

 

About the University of Debrecen

The History of the University of Debrecen dates back to 1538, when the Reformed College of Debrecen was established. Today 14 faculties situated on 7 campuses have more than 27,000 students. The international programs were launched in 1987 and all of them are delivered in English.

At present, the number of international students is more than 5,000 and they represent countries from all major regions of the world, including Europe, the Middle and Far East, Africa, and North America. UD offers more than 60 programs in English language on preparatory, bachelor, master and PhD level, and 4 undivided, one-tier programs as well.

Thanks to a wide variety of English language degree programs combined with an education of outstanding quality, the University of Debrecen has been successful in attracting the largest number of international students of any Hungarian higher education institution.

Having been classified as a ’University of National Excellence’ and offering a wide range of academic programs, the University of Debrecen is an outstanding cultural and intellectual center, one of the best universities in Hungary.

 

Accreditation

The University of Debrecen conducts its programs according to the European Qualifications Framework of the Bologna Process, all of the programs have been accredited by the Hungarian Accreditation Committee (HAC).

Education at Debrecen Medical School is accredited by the World Health Organization, US Department of Education, The State Education Department (NY, USA), Medical Board of California, the General Medical Council, Medical Councils of Israel, Ireland, Iran and Norway.
