At the latest event of Semmelweis University’s Science and Business Salon, four winning teams from the Hungarian Startup University (HSUP) talent management programme presented their most innovative ideas from Semmelweis, who will develop these concepts further with the help of their mentors. The winning projects include a smart medicine dispenser, an educational card game, an educational platform for university students and a dance training video for wheelchair users.

This time again we introduce you to one of our volunteers of our international team with 30 people from 215 countries speaking 23 different languages. In this chapter of our volunteer series, you can read Dr. Lillian Achola Oluoch’s story from Kenya! She studied in Hungary and did her doctoral degree between 2016-2021 at the University of Szeged and now she is a Lecturer in the Department of Statistics and Computational Mathematics, at The Technical University of Kenya, Nairobi, Kenya.

Prof. Sándor Imre, who is the R&D director of the Quantum Informatics National Lab of Hungary, was our presenter for the June edition of our Alumni Hungary Webinar Series. He also gave us an interview in which he talked about the state of quantum computing now, future prospects and his own research. 

We continue to introduce our international alumni volunteer team to you, which has 40 people from 28 countries speaking 20 different languages. In the next chapter of our volunteer series, you can read Hikmat Hasanov’s story from Azerbaijan! He studied in Hungary between 2019-2021 at Budapest Business School and now he’s working as a Senior Corporate Fundraiser in Baku.

World-class researchers played a key role at the international rhinology and skull base surgery course of the University of Szeged. The lectures and instructions were attended by doctors and lecturers as well as by national and international participants. The training will further strengthen the University of Szeged's network of links with Asian and European universities.

Örs Hunor Detre is a physicist and astronomer who specializes in the research and development of space instruments. He is currently leading an engineering team working on the grand project of the James Webb Space Telescope, which he talked about in the May edition of our Alumni Hungary Webinar Series. He was kind enough to also give us a short interview about his experiences and the significance of the project.

The debate on working time is one of the most relevant topics of our age.  The ecological economist, Miklós Antal studies this highly interesting field as the head of the MTA-ELTE Lendület New Vision Research Group. As the presenter of the Alumni Hungary Webinar Series in April, he introduced his research on the potential of working time reduction and a more sustainable economic system. We caught him for an interview and asked him about this exciting project.
