Our alumni communities and networks are growing day by day and have reached around 10.000 members. Some of them decided to organize chapters (small groups) to keep in contact or build professional collaboration with each other. In 2022 our alumni volunteers launched 6 different new alumni groups (4 local and 2 professional) giving a chance to the members to join. Fusion energy is one of the hottest scientific topics right now. It is hoped that fusion power could provide huge quantities of clean energy and would help to fight climate change in the near future. On 17 May, at the next Alumni Hungary Webinar top Hungarian physicist and fusion researcher, Sándor Zoletnik will give you an insight into the present and future of fusion power and the largest international fusion energy project, ITER.

On 19 April, network biologist Ferenc Jordán held a great presentation for the audience of the Alumni Hungary Webinar Series on the challenges of marine sustainability. We asked him a few questions on the importance of marine ecosystems and our role in supporting sustainable actions and thinking. The Alumni Network Hungary has emerging chapters (small groups) to develop community in our enlarging network. Among the chapters, the Azerbaijan Hungary Alumni Network (AHAU) organizes a hiking event for those alumni who still live in Hungary. The Interior and Spatial Design master students of the University of Pécs have received one of the highest awards in the international Builder Architecture Competition. The “Las Vegas Affordable Housing Challenge” competition called for projects that create new ways to reduce housing prices.
 

Sustainable management of marine ecosystems plays a fundamental role in the fight against the global environmental crisis. Challenges such as overfishing and the decrease of biodiversity in the oceans cause series risks to our environment and humanity. Understanding the interconnectedness of these highly fragile ecosystems is the first step towards change both on global and individual levels. In the next Alumni Hungary Webinar network biologist, Professor Ferenc Jordán will explore the responses of science to the challenges of marine sustainability.

We have a great and enthusiastic international alumni volunteer team of 22 people from 18 countries. Most of them decided to create an alumni chapter in their home country or make international professional alumni groups and some of them did great social media work. In the next chapter of our volunteer series, you can read Craig Johnson’s story from South Africa! He studied international relations at Budapest Business School between 2017-2020 and now he is the Head of Incubation at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.

Community bikes during the pandemic changed the perspectives of public transport in Budapest. With his entry titled Usage patterns of community bike systems, Zombor Berezvai received an Academic Youth Award in February this year.
